Full house for history lesson!

fundraising

Members and friends enjoyed a fascinating illustrated talk by local historian John Risdon and learned all about the history of Galmpton Creek. John explained the unique geology of the area and how it has shaped numerous and varied activities over the centuries. The audience enjoyed a selection of photographs, paintings and maps charting the area's changing fortunes from mediaeval salmon traps to Galmpton's incredible contribution to the war effort. The above photograph taken in 1948 shows Dartside Boatyard where we are now based. The evening raised £305 and we are extremely grateful to John for his knowledge charting the ebb and flow of the creek in all its many guises. Many thanks also to the wonderful saxophonist Paul Scott who kept us all entertained with his great music, to Carrie and Kathryn for all their hard work and to everybody who supported the event at the Galmpton Village Hall - a great venue. Thank you to you all!
